R1 vs Planix Pro speeds

For those of you who have used both models extensively, in the real world, how much faster is the R1 over the Pro? Is it noticeably faster? Can it be quantified as 10%, 25%, or other value?

I used the PRO for about 2 or 3 years and the R1 for just under a year now. I personally couldn’t say it is noticeably faster. It seems to ‘me’ that it depends on settings or firmware as there have been times when it has seemed faster and times when it seemed painfully slow. To be fair I found the same thing with the Pro as well. Just my 2 cents on my specific experience. Interested to hear what others have to say.

Interesting. I thought when the R1 was released one of the benefits was that improved capture speed.

How have you found the R1 image quality in comparison? The Planix Pro is awful with yellow colour casts.

Hi Leroy.
In my opinion the R1 is considerably faster IF you turn the noise reduction off. It’s extremely fast and the image quality is pretty good at that setting - perfect for commercial work etc. For Real Estate presentations it needs to have the nise reduction on at least medium. I do find there is a bit of a bluish cast to it. Way better image quality than the Planix, but still not in the same league as the IMS5.

Yes I had heard the speed was improved as well. And as mentioned above, the NR settings absolutely add a LOT of time to the process. I don’t need to use NR too often myself, but my experience has been as stated, even without it I haven’t noticed a ‘huge’ increase in speed if any at all, personally. Now that I think about it, didn’t the Pro always have a NR setting turned on and you could choose between hi, medium, or low? If so, that could produce the quicker capture time on the R1 as you now have the option to turn the NR completely off. It’s possible that I’m not remembering just how ‘slow’ the Pro was. I believe the R1 is about 8-11 seconds from shutter to beep. But as I mentioned, it sometimes is longer (13-15 seconds) for no apparent reason (no NR enabled).

As for colour, I still always have to reduce yellows and blues in the wizard. 99% of the panos have to come down to at least -34 for both, sometimes -51 for the yellows. And that is on High or Medium HDR settings with or without NR
