DWG Add-On Compatibility for Traditional and Drywall Systems (Not Just Wood Framing)

Hi iGUIDE team and community,

I’d like to suggest an improvement that would make the DWG add-on much more useful for professionals in countries like Italy, where traditional masonry and drywall systems are the norm, rather than wood framing.

It would be great if:

  • The DWG export could support wall standards typical in Italy, such as traditional brick or block walls and dry construction systems (e.g. metal stud + drywall), not just North American wood framing.
  • Both Architecture and Remodelling selections could reflect these types of constructions.
  • There was the ability to refine window and door dimensions manually, either:
    • during the iGUIDE upload process, or
    • later on, by exporting the CSV file, manually entering exact measurements (taken on-site), and re-uploading it.
  • Each window/door element should have a unique ID shown on the plan, to match the data in the CSV clearly.

These features would make the DWG add-on much more valuable for architectural and renovation workflows here, and would absolutely increase the number of projects where I’d choose to use it.

Thanks for considering!

Best regards,

Hello Michele,

We really appreciate this feedback. We are always looking to improve our deliverables and provide the necessary information for our users.

Regarding the wall assemblies, understand that traditional Italian or brick/block construction aren’t common here. Would you be able to provide more information on the common dimensions of the bricks, blocks, and metal studs for these assemblies? As well as any common increments one would commonly expect in these walls.

For example;
The Blocks are 190mm CMU with 102mm bricks and a 92mm stud. Additional brick courses would see this wall increase at 102mm increments.

Any additional information on the dimensions of the materials in these walls and how much they increase by would be greatly beneficial for us to better provide walls appropriate for your location.

We are actively looking into improving our windows and doors, as well as reporting, and appreciate your thoughts.

Thank you kindly,

Hello,

Thank you for your message and for your willingness to adapt the deliverables based on regional construction practices — I really appreciate it.

At the moment, I’m fully involved in the survey of a historic building, for which I’m still requesting various updates. This phase will likely keep me busy for a few more weeks.

Once the project is complete, I’ll make sure to get back to you and send over a table with common wall thicknesses used in Italy, both for traditional masonry (brick and block) and dry construction systems. I’ll also include typical dimensions and incremental thicknesses that are often found in these assemblies.

Thanks again for your openness and collaboration — I look forward to getting back to you soon with more detailed information.

Kind regards,

Awesome,
I look forward to collaborating more as we move towards more support of international construction types.

Thank you kindly,
